12 Reasons Trump Must be Defeated
It’s 100 days until the election. The stakes couldn’t be higher.
Here are 12 reasons Trump must be defeated:
1. HE’S CORRUPT
He may be the most corrupt president in history. He’s used the office to enrich himself, his family and his supporters. He’s used his power to protect his friends and illegally target his enemies. He’s dismantled ethics rules designed to make government work for the people. He said he was going to “drain the swamp,” but he replaced it with a sewer.
2. THE SUPREME COURT
Judicial balance and sanity are at stake. There is no doubt that whomever is elected president in November will make several Supreme Court picks. (Also, please please hang on until January, Justice Ginsberg!)
3. HEALTHCARE
Millions have lost their health care coverage thanks to Trump’s cynical dismantling of the affordable care act with zero effort to replace it. Not to mention the disastrous impact of Covid-19 on the healthcare system, which Trump’s incompetent response has made far worse. Health care is a human right and no one should go bankrupt just to stay healthy.
4. HE’S A DEGENERATE LIAR
It’s tempting to say “all politicians lie,” but no politician has ever been so untethered to the truth as Trump. The catalog of his lies is endless. It’s insane that we’ve come to accept this from our president. Our government must be led by facts, not falsehoods and conspiracy theories.
5. HE WEAKENED OUR STANDING IN THE WORLD
He weakened our alliances, trashed our reputation, and reduced our moral authority. His disastrous non-response to Covid-19 has isolated the U.S. and made us an international pariah.
6. THE ECONOMY
Even before Covid-19, he ran up the debt and deficit and compromised our future. While stocks were high, the majority of the country did not benefit from those gains. And, of course, his disastrous handling of Covid-19 has wrecked the economy in historic ways.
7. THE ENVIRONMENT
His rollback of environmental protections are an ecological disaster. He has made our air and water and food less safe, and done nothing to slow the looming impacts of climate change.
8. COVID-19
His incompetence and narcissism when faced with a true crisis has been well documented. Many more Americans have died as a direct result of his lack of leadership. (149,000 and counting. That’s equivalent to 50 plane crashes a week, for four months.) His failure to show empathy or take responsiblity is profoundly disqualifying.
9. CREEPING AUTHORITARIANISM AND FASCISM
Yes, I realize that throwing around the “F word” can seem like hyperbole. But Trump’s deployment of un-badged, armed federal forces to American cities, and unleashing them on citizens should terrify us all.
10. RACIAL TENSION
Trump has weaponized racial tensions, pitting Americans against one another. He is incapable of understanding the deep racial injustices in the country or leading the nation through this moment of reckoning. (Oh, he’s also an unrepentant racist who consistently sides with the forces of white supremacy.)
11. GOODBYE TO THE D-TEAM
His administration wasn’t great to begin with and it’s gotten worse as he’s driven more and more people out. We’re left with the D-team leading the country, including the worst Trump sycophants, apocalyptic evangelicals, and self-dealing family members. When Trump goes, so does Barr, DeVos, Pompeo, Miller, Ivanka, Jared, Pence, and the host of un-approved “acting” leaders that Trump never bothered to get congressionally approved.
12. HE’S AN EMBARRASSMENT
Finally…aren’t you just sick of him? The constant whining? The narcissism? The tweeting? His rambling, incoherent rants? The indsecurity? The cruelty? The stupidity? We deserve so, so much better.
Whatever Joe Biden is or isn’t, he’s an improvement over Trump in each and every one of these ways. We must vote for him in November and end this national nightmare.
(Oh, and these are all the same reasons you should vote against your Republican senator, congressman/woman, any anybody else who has supported Trump as he has wreaked havoc on our nation.)
